The Social and Epistemic Relevance of ‘Fake News’ in Cambodia

Fresh media is a popular Khmer-language online media outlet which includes emerged supporting Cambodia’s shift to hegemonic authoritarianism. Its emergence has got paralleled a government attack on purses of unbiased media that enact the liberal democratic project. New News incorporates a particular sway in articulating, legitimizing, and aiming to craft support for the regime’s new notion of democracy, endorsing an ongoing judicialization of mega-politics, and distributing a discourse of ‘fake news’ that tries to foster an epistemic shift.

On this page, I use an inductive way of analyse the transcripts of formal selection interviews conducted when using the attendees of an day center and their experiences with information. The results demonstrate that ‘fake news’ is not only a fidèle political smear but an essential component of the socially meaningful dimension of sharing ‘news’. Attendants see the ‘news’ they present to one another as part of their identification for the reason that older persons, and this plays a part in a sense of belonging in their home life circumstance.

In light of this finding, We consider the implications of the broader sociable and epistemic significance on the post-truth few moments. In this good sense, the term evokes more than just a time marked by simply an erosion of truth, facticity, and civility in discourse and public life; it also impulses the breakdown of modern assignments of disciplining knowledge.
